Precision Liposuction

“Lipo”= fat; “Suction”= to remove by aspiration

What could be better?

Liposuction (Lipo) is the gold standard for permanently removing fat cells from areas of the body where it is unwanted. Most of us try to our best to eat well, exercise and stay in great health, but it’s not always possible to achieve the body we want with diet and exercise alone. That’s where Dr. Steele Johnson comes in. She understands that sometimes have stubborn pockets of fat that just don’t respond to our efforts in the gym and kitchen. She knows that sometimes we have a genetic predisposition to fat in one area that doesn’t fit with the rest of our body. She understands that as we get older, what was once easy to lose becomes more and more difficult to exercise away. In any case, Dr. Steele Johnson knows how you feel.

With Precision Liposuction, Dr. Steele Johnson can specifically target the areas of fat that are unwanted or out of the desired proportion with the rest of your body. You may love your thighs, but feel like you have a pudgy belly. You may have a great waistline, but fat thighs. Or you may hate the way that your back fat bulges around your bra or looks in t-shirts. Dr. Steele Johnson can precisely target these areas to help you achieve a more proportionate and sculpted body.

Unlike other types of liposuction, in Precision Lipo, Dr. Steele Johnson uses fine movements and tools to finely sculpt the areas to your desired result. There is are no brutish movements with large instruments like you may find in other types of liposuction that lead to post operative pain and dramatically increase risk of injury and irregular results. Instead, Dr. Steele Johnson uses microcannulas to efficiently, comfortably, safely and precisely remove fat. Patients are usually able to return to work or other activities the very next day and often describe the procedure as one of the easiest things they’ve ever done!

Dr. Steele Johnson’s Precision Lipo is based on the techniques that she learned from Dr. Jeffrey Klein, the dermatologist with pioneered the field of tumescent liposuction. Dr. Steele Johnson trained under Dr. Klein in order to learn the safest and most effective techniques and has since perfected her own Precision Lipo. Expertise matters.

While there are many options in the world of fat removal and body shaping, you want a procedure that produces real results that are permanent. You want a procedure that isn’t painful and affords you an easy recovery. You want a procedure with immediate results. Ultimately, you want a procedure that gives you a naturally looking sculpted and beautifully shaped body. Dr. Steele Johnson’s Precision Lipo is the procedure that stands our above the rest in body sculpting and body shaping.

Why Precision Lipo vs. Any Other Type of Lipo? + -

Dr. Steele Johnson uses very small cannulas, microcannulas, to suction the fat in Precision Lipo. This technique has multiple advantages over that of typical lipo procedures that typically use large size cannulas: the small microcannulas cause minimal trauma to the tissues, ensure that you are completely comfortable both during and after the procedure. Similarly, this technique avoids unnecessary heat from lasers or ultrasound that can damage the skin and make recovery more difficult. Most patients resume normal activities the day after the procedure and require no pain medication.

With tumescent anesthesia in Precision Lipo, the numbing solution is injected into the fat layer itself and the procedure is safely done in the office so you don’t have to undergo the risk of going “under” or being “put to sleep” with general anesthesia. With tumescent anesthesia, risks of a reaction to anesthesia, puncture of vital organ or other tissues are completely avoided making Precision Lipo the safest and most effective means of liposuction.

Finally, the small microcannulas used in Precision Lipo make it precise! Using small cannulas allows Dr. Steele Johnson to finely sculpt the areas to be treated to make sure that your results are smooth and natural looking! When undergoing a cosmetic procedure you want to make sure you get the best cosmetic result possible which Dr. Steele Johnson does with Precision Lipo.

Will the fat cells move to other areas? + -

No. The fat cells that are removed are permanently gone. Your remaining fat cells in your body, however, can expand if you gain weight. If you have liposuction to your abdomen, then you have fewer fat cells in your abdomen after the procedure. Consequently, in the future, if you gain weight, you won’t have as many fat cells in the abdomen to expand, but you still have the same number of fat cells in the thighs, so the thighs get bigger. It’s not that the thighs wouldn’t have gotten bigger before the abdomen liposuction, but after the Precision Liposuction, the abdomen doesn’t get bigger leaving only the thighs for you to notice.

What’s the recovery like? + -

Immediately after Precision Lipo you will just be tired and likely want to go to rest, which is what Dr. Steele Johnson encourages. We want you to take it easy the day of the procedure and the day after, although you are free to move around and do normal daily activities the next day. You can return to work as soon as you are ready, usually in 1-2 days.

During the procedure anesthetic solution is infused into the fat layer under the skin, and while some of it is suctioned out, the remainder will drain in the first 24-36hrs post Precision Lipo. You will be given garments and pads to absorb this solution.

Dr. Steele Johnson’s biggest concern is your positioning. Once she suctions out the fat cells then you will be in a tight-fitting garment that will shape your body and keep the contours that were just created. Standing or lying in a straight up and down, or side to side position are the best way to keep the shape stable. So avoid folding your body over in sitting, standing or other activities. If you have fat transfer to the buttocks then you will have to be very careful about sitting on the area and must avoiding crushing the newly transferred fat cells.

How soon will I see results? + -

Mostly, you will see the results immediately. You will have some swelling and leftover numbing solution in the area though right after the procedure that will need to resolve before you see your final results. As far as fat reduction and shaping go, you will see about 90% of your result by 6 weeks. Skin tightening as result of the procedure though may continue for 6 months though. So, if we do consider something like a mini tummy tuck or excision of any excess skin, we wait that period of time to see how much total tightening is achieved in the 6 month period.

How much weight or how many dress sizes will I lose? + -

You will lose a minimal amount of weight. Fat just doesn’t weight that much, so even taking away a few liters of fat, may only mean a pound or two in “weight loss”. The point is not weight loss, but shaping. On the other hand, you may go down a size or two. It will mostly be about looking better in your clothes and not having bulges or overhanging fat in certain areas.

I’m planning on losing weight. Should I lose weight before or after the liposuction? + -

It’s best to be closest to your ideal weight when you undergo the procedure.

  1. You need to adopt healthy habits that will allow you to get to and stay at your ideal weight even after the liposuction.
  2. We want to know where the isolated bulges and pockets are really located. When you have excess fat all over, it’s harder to accurately shape you.
What if you have flabby/stretched out skin? + -

You get the best results with Precision Lipo if you have good skin texture with great elastic fibers such that the skin will snap back once the fat is removed. For most patients, the skin is capable of a significant amount of retraction. Dr. Steele Johnson almost always likes to see how much your skin can retract naturally before doing other procedures. If the skin doesn’t retract well then you may be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck where the excess skin is removed or a skin tightening procedure like Ultherapy.

Is it possible to transfer the fat somewhere else? + -

Yes! If you have an area of the body where you want more volume (typically the face or buttocks) then more care can be taken in extracting the fat to keep them whole and healthy and they can be injected into other areas of the body. For the face, where injectable fillers are a great option, there are pros and cons to volumizing with a filler vs. fat which Dr. Steele Johnson can discuss with you. For an area like the buttocks, fat is the only injectable option.

Are there age limits or health restrictions for getting liposuction? + -

There are no age limits. If your skin is in good condition and you are in good health, then most likely you are a good candidate for Precision Liposuction! Overall, Dr. Steele Johnson wants her patients to be in good health before undergoing liposuction, i.e. good blood pressure, good blood sugar, etc. Dr. Steele Johnson will go over your medical history and medications, and order labs to confirm that Precision Liposuction is a safe, healthy procedure for you. She will address any specific health concerns with you as well.

non surgical fat reduction

An unwanted bulge? A little extra pudge? An extra roll spilling over a waistline or bra strap? Or kissing thighs? Whether you have a few pounds to lose or you’re close to your ideal body weight, most of us have one or more area where we’d like to get rid of a pocket of fat. Liposuction is an awesome means of eliminating fat, but it’s not the only way. If you aren’t ready for a surgical procedure, then CoolSculpting may be perfect for you. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical (i.e. no cutting, no needles, no anesthesia) way to literally freeze fat cells away. It’s simple, if you have some extra fat cells that you’d like to get rid of, then you’re likely a good candidate!

Fat Removal Made Easy

The CoolSculpting procedure is a revolutionary, non surgical, non-invasive fat removal that can be performed in the comfort of your dermatologist’s office. If performed well, the results may be very similar to liposuction in getting rid of fat in discrete areas to sculpt your body and give you the shape that you desire to look and feel better in and out of clothes. CoolSculpting works best with a healthy lifestyle, but it offers fat reduction without the need for seriously restrictive diets or extreme exercise plans. The results are permanent so you don’t have to worry about the fat coming back or going somewhere else. Beyond being needle, knife, and anesthesia-free, there is no downtime. You can return to your normal activities including work or exercise the very same day.

coolsculpting non surgical fat reduction

What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a method of non-surgical, non-invasive fat reduction that has been safely used millions of times around the world. The device has an applicator that is attached to your fat bulge. Once the applicator is attached, the temperature drops in the applicator and the bulge of fat is chilled. During the process, you sit and watch tv, play on your iPad, do emails or talk on the phone. Once the device is removed, the area is massaged and the treatment is done. The device is FDA approved, so you can rest assured that your experience will be safe and secure. You’ll get the thigh, back, waist, chin or belly fat reduction you’re looking for with a minimum of risk and maximum results.

The CoolSculpting procedure may sound like magic, but it’s actually based on hard science. Researchers have long known that cold temperatures kill fat cells. After years of development at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, which is associated with Harvard University, the CoolSculpting procedure was introduced to dermatologists everywhere. Doctors are now able to use this technology to safely and effectively cool affected parts of the body. This controlled cooling, which is known as cryolipolysis, targets fat cells beneath the surface of the skin. Freezing causes the cells to die, and the body naturally flushes away these dead cells over time. The result is a slimmer, more sculpted body.

CoolSculpting does not damage or affect the skin in any way since it is only fat cells that are uniquely sensitive to cold temperaturesMoreover, fat cells in untreated areas will not be affected. This allows dermatologists and patients to work toward targeted, nonsurgical fat reduction (or sculpting) that produces spectacular results.

This non-surgical weight loss procedure does not produce immediate results. The body needs time to flush away the dead fat cells, which means that you will slowly begin to notice changes in your body over the weeks following your Coolsculpting procedure. You won’t believe how much it changes the way you look and feel. Plus, you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing that those fat cells are gone for good. They aren’t ever coming back!

What Is the Procedure Like?

When people ask about CoolSculpting, Alpharetta and Johns Creek dermatologists are always happy to provide them with all the details. That’s because the procedure is so easy and comfortable. While the dermatologist applies the cooling device to the patient’s skin, the patient is free to sit back and relax. Many people read a book, answer emails or simply fall asleep during the CoolSculpting procedure. At Steele Dermatology, we try to give you all the creature comforts that you would want with wifi, tv, pillows, blankets, etc. It really is that easy and comfortable.

Is CoolSculpting Uncomfortable?

Patients frequently experience feelings of pressure and intense cold during the first few minutes of CoolSculpting. These sensations typically fade, making this an ideal treatment solution for people who don’t want to take on all of the risks of having a surgical procedure. Few side effects are associated with the treatment. Some patients have experienced mild bruising, tingling, redness and pain after the session is complete. These side effects happen in the minority of cases. Your dermatologist can suggest treatment methods that can lessen the discomfort of any side effects.

Most patients are able to return to their normal schedule immediately after their CoolSculpting session. That means you can immediately return to your normal work, exercise and social activities. The amount of time required to complete this fat reduction procedure varies between patients. The more areas you’d like to treat, the longer the session is likely to be. Also, be aware that more than one session may be necessary for you to achieve the ultimate results you desire. You will work closely with your dermatologist to create a treatment schedule that works for you.
